The buzz around the recent awards show has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This distinction hints that the team could be designing a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities only possible if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, enabling players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, frequently in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
